Fleur Rossdale approached me to design a bathroom specifically for The British Interior Design Exhibition held at Chelsea Town Hall, London. The concept of the exhibition was to create a large house with an enfilade of rooms – bedrooms, living rooms, drawing rooms, libraries, bathrooms etc – through which the public would walk. A number of designers were selected to create the individual rooms.
Presented with a rather awkward, long, narrow space with asymmetric entrance and exit, I had to design the space to overcome these defects by forming recesses at each end for the bath and basin units. Paying close attention to proportion and harmony, I used the Neoclassical style, one of my favourite architectural periods. The room was highly praised and appeared in House And Garden.
