Cyril Farey, best-known for his illustrations produced for Lutyens, was an accomplished Arts & Crafts architect in his own right and this house in Hampstead won a Country Life award for ‘Small Houses’ in 1914. I worked on designs for small extensions each side and remodelled the interior, retaining the fine Arts & Crafts detailing. My designs for the kitchen, bathrooms and bookroom continued in this spirit. I designed the pewter-clad Roman bath in 1991, anticipating the current fashion.
