I was delighted to be contacted by a client for whom I had last done some work 25 years ago, and asked to design an annexe next to the beautful Regency Rectory in which he and his wife had lived for 40 years. Both now in their eighties, they wished to move into a smaller house that is easier to manage, so that their daughter and her family could take over the main house. They wished the new building to be architecturally in harmony with the existing house, contain the same standard of detailing and proportions internally, but deliver 21st century standards of comfort and facilities, including full disabled access. In effect, this is in the tradition of a dower house.
