Dower House in Wales

Sadly this is one of those projects that never quite made it. The plan was for a beautiful large Regency house on an estate in Wales to be handed over to the next generation of the family, whilst the elderly owners moved into a smaller more manageable house in the grounds. The target dwelling was a four bedroomed stone house, originally three farmworkers’ cottages, which had previously been occupied by the owner’s mother. As well as completely replanning and upgrading the building to suit their lifestyle, including disabled access to the first floor, they wished to incorporate a number of much loved architectural details from the main house, to introduce more harmony between them. But in the end the family’s plans changed, and the owners still live in the main house five years later.

This drawing shows the existing house, as it was and still is.

I also worked on sketch designs for the garden, including two garden buildings.  In the move the clients would have left behind a rather fine wine cellar, so one of these was a folly Orangery with basement wine cellar.  The other was an Oak Gazebo.  Neither have been built on this site, but I am working on a larger version of the Gazebo which is to be built as a view termination on the boundary of a new town in Dorset.
